Spanish for beginners

Spain and the Spanish language

Spain is one of the most desirable destinations, not only when it comes to travel for pleasure but also as a place to settle, make career progress or study. Add to this the fact that Romance languages, to which Spanish also belongs, are among the most popular with learners, and it becomes clear—there’s no reason not to enroll in a Spanish language course.

Spanish (español) or Castilian (castellano) is one of the four official languages spoken in the Kingdom of Spain.

In addition to Spain, Spanish is the official language throughout Central and South America, that is, in over 20 countries, including:

Mexico,

Peru,

Argentina,

Paraguay,

Uruguay,

Bolivia,

Columbia,

Cuba, and others.

Over half a billion people speak Spanish, nearly 500 million of whom are native speakers. Spanish is currently in fourth place according to the number of speakers of the language, and is well on the road to endangering the position of English in this regard.

Is Spanish difficult?

There is no simple answer to this question, but one thing is for sure: Spanish is one of the most mellifluous languages, and is suitable for online learning. It has roots in Latin, but also bears similarities with Italian, French, Romanian and Portuguese.

If you’re wondering how to learn Spanish fast, the answer is—simply by getting started. A Spanish language course will provide you with the foundation necessary for mastering some of the many dialects of the Spanish-speaking world.

Beginner students of Spanish, hearing this language in Cuba or Argentina, often get confused. However, with a carefully selected course offered by the Hi5 educational platform, and with your personal effort, you stand an excellent chance of becoming a walking Serbian-Spanish dictionary. Our online classroom is always ready and waiting for you.

International Spanish language examinations

Language learning online

The Hi5 educational platform is also at your disposal when it comes to preparing for one of the international examinations available.

DELE | Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera

Taking this examination is intended for everyone who is not a native speaker of Spanish and wishes to get better at the language. It is approved by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, and can be taken at the Cervantes Institute.

The examination can be taken at one of the six levels of language proficiency, from A1 to C2, corresponding with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The DELE diploma is valid indefinitely from the moment it is issued; however, do be prepared to wait for the results for several months.

SIELE

SIELE (2016) examinations are more recent compared to DELE (1989), with several key differences between them:

They are more expensive.

You obtain your results within 3 weeks.

They can be taken at levels A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1.

If you don’t require all modules, you can take only those you need.

The SIELE certificate is valid for 5 years.

You can find out the place and date of the examination on the official website. You can also book and pay to take the examination on their website.

Like DELE, this examination also consists of 4 modules (reading, listening, essay writing, and speaking). It is possible to take the entire exam, or to take only its individual parts, for example if you require a diploma attesting only to a specific linguistic competence.

Spanish is spoken on six continents.

It is the 2nd fastest language in the world.

Spanish language placement test

Students are often unclear about what exactly they would like to learn, and just how much knowledge they need. A placement test is an excellent way to determine which Spanish language course on offer suits your needs best. You can take this test multiple times, entirely free of charge. Your test results will be archived. You will thus have a reference point against which you can measure the progress you are making at any time.
